Bujang Senang

By Mohammad Ammar Bin Mohd Akhir

Bujang Senang is a crocodile from the species Crocodylus porosus (saltwater crocodile) and measured about 20 feet long when shot dead. It cannot be ascertained how many people have become victims. The skull of Bujang Senang is currently on display at the Sarawak Museum in Kuching, Sarawak.

For the Iban people living in the Batang Lupar River area, they believe Bujang Senang is a human incarnation. In addition to its large size, this crocodile is also considered unique because it has a white line on the back of its body. This line is not found on any common crocodile in Sarawak. It seems to reinforce the myth that this crocodile is the incarnation of an Iban warrior named Simalungun who was cursed a long time ago.
