Orang Minyak

The Orang Minyak is a mythical monster covered in slick black grease who abducts young ladies at night, according to Malay ghost beliefs. Orang Minyak literally translates to "oily man" in Malay.

 

Orang Minyak, according to Malay folklore, is a creature who abducts young ladies at night. Because of its slippery covering, the creature is said to be able to climb walls and grab victims while avoiding capture. According to some folklorists, the Orang Minyak appears nude or in "a black pair of swimming trunks." According to some tales, the Orang Minyak is a rapist who solely targets virgins. Beginning in the 1950s, the Orang Minyak was blamed for rapes, and superstitious Malay female students would try to fend off the creature by wearing sweaty clothing "to give the appearance of someone who had recently been with a man."
