Polong
By Irfan Iskandar Bin Isman Rohimly
POLONG tells a story about a familiar spirit called Polong that terrorizes the villagers upon the command of its master or owner. The Polong was born from the blood of a murdered man but must be nurtured with the owner’s blood as a way to form a contract with it. It takes the form of a miniature woman. It is also kept in a spherical bottle with a narrow neck.
The owner uses the Polong as a way to disturb the villagers mentally or physically as they will be affected with bruises or blood spewing from their mouths. It is accompanied by another spirit, the Pelesit, The Pelesit will signal the Polong’s next victim to mark. The victims are also subjected to become frenzied or berserk, attacking those near to them. The owner will take this opportunity to scam his victims by pretending to have the ability to rid the Polong.
As the Polong rages on in the shape of a small fireball, the villagers band together to get rid of it once and for all by calling on a shaman to catch and perform an exorcism on it or by finding out the owner of the Polong.
